Nordic Cancer Union calls for applications on strategic projects

May 10, 2019 Nordic Cancer Union has announced two calls for applications regarding strategic projects: 1) New tobacco products, snus and e-cigarettes. 2) Research projects on socioeconomic inequality and cancer. Application deadline: 2 September 2019.   Strategic projects concerning new tobacco products, snus and e-cigarettes NCU invites relevant applicants to apply for funding targeted at strategic projects concerning new tobacco products and nicotine containing products (smokeless tobacco, snus, chewing tobacco, heated tobacco products and e-cigarettes). We encourage not only applications targeting classical research/science projects but also projects with a more broad approach. The project(s) should give insight to the prevalence of use of smokeless tobacco, snus, chewing tobacco, heated tobacco products and e-cigarettes in the Nordic Countries2 especially with focus on their use and appeal among children and adolescents with the aim of proposing recommendations for a common NCU policy in the area.   The project(s) could include analysis of e.g.:
  • Which impact do flavorings have on the use of the novel tobacco products and e-cigarettes.
  • The significance of the political regulation of flavors, e.g. by looking at the significance of the legislation of flavored tobacco products in Finland compared to the other Nordic countries and the impact on adolescent uptake and perceptions of these products.
  • Marketing and packaging – e.g. by looking at the significance of plain packaging in Norway compared to the other Nordic countries and how marketing and packaging affects uptake, use and perceptions.
  • The health risks of the products, especially with focus on cancer.
